2026 Candidate Information

The Town Council consists of seven elected officials who serve four-year staggered terms.

  • For the 2026 elections, three council seats are open

Interested in running for office?

Running for Town Council

  • Qualifications: (1) Must be 18 years old; (2) must be a registered voter; (3) must have been a Town Resident for not less than one year preceding the date of the Election, and (4) must be able to speak, write, and read English (A.R.S. § 38-201).

  • Candidate Packets will be available for the Town Clerk's Office Beginning December 1, 2025

  • To run for office, a candidate must submit the following forms to the Town Clerk:

    • PRIOR TO COLLECTION SIGNATURES

      • Statement of Interest

    • DURING THE REQUIRED FILING PERIOD _ MARCH 9, 2026 UNTIL 5:00 P.M. ON APRIL 6, 2026

      • Nonpartisan Nomination Paper

      • Nomination Petitions

      • Financial Disclosure Statement

    • AS APPLICABLE

      • Statement of Organization (once a candidate meets the %500 threshold to register)

    • Campaign Finance Report (due for active open committees on certain dates as required by state law)

  • Signature Requirement: Candidates must collect 19 signatures and a maximum of 38 signatures to be place on the ballot.

To run for office as a WRITE-IN CANDIDATE (your not is not on the ballot), a candidate must submit the following forms to the Town Clerk:

    • DURING THE REQUIRED FILING PERIOD _ MARCH 9, 2026 UNTIL 5:00 P.M. ON APRIL 6, 2026

      • Nonpartisan Nomination Paper

      • Financial Disclosure Statement

    • AS APPLICABLE

      • Statement of Organization (once a candidate meets the %500 threshold to register)

    • Campaign Finance Report (due for active open committees on certain dates as required by state law)

COUNCIL INFORMATION

  • Term Information: Newly elected officials for two of the sets will take office at the first regularly scheduled Town Council meeting in January following the election at which the Mayor or Council Member was elected. Candidates are elected to four-year terms and may serve four overlapping terms. A newly elected official for one of the seats (currently held by an appointee) will take office as of the general election date pursuant to state law.

Last Day to Register to Vote: Voter Registration Deadline for the Primary Election - 11:59 p.m. on July 6, 2026

Early Voting Begins: July 8, 2026

Election Day: August 4, 2026 (polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.)

Unofficial Results: Posted at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day on the La Paz County website, with additional results released periodically until the Final Results are released.

Last Day to Remove Political Signs from ROW (for candidates who do not advance to the runoff): August 19, 2026

Canvass of Election: By August 24, 2026, as required by A.R.S. § 16-642(A)(3)

Pursuant to state law, any statement and reports filed by a campaign finance committee must be posted online. To form a candidate committee or political action committee of file a campaign finance report, please contact the own Clerk's Office for copies of the recent forms.
